TAC2010 ARTS & COMMUNICATIONS CAREER PATHWAY CORE
Grade 9

Recommended for any student interested in a career in Graphics, Media, Technology, Photography, and Fine Arts.
This introductory course is designed for students who plan to pursue careers in the Arts & Communications Career Pathway. Students will be introduced to the standards in the visual and media arts with hands on projects in drawing, painting, photography, and computer and digital technology.
 
FVK1000 DESIGN 1
Grades 9/10
1 credit each year
This course follows: ACCP Core. Effective Class of 2014, will serve as an alternate core for drawing, painting, and ceramics.
This course is an introduction to the 2-dimensional (drawing/painting/printmaking) and 3-dimensional (ceramics/sculpture) visual arts forms. Students will have opportunities to learn about and apply the elements and principles of design while creating imaginative solutions to visual problems. As students learn basic art skills and techniques, the students will explore a variety of art materials such as colored pencil, watercolor, and clay. Emphasis will be placed on the development of each student's creative and expressive potential. Students will also begin to investigate career choices in the visual arts field.
 
After successful completion of the Arts and Communication Core, students can complete any of the following strands in the order printed. Students who complete these sequences of courses and earn credit for Expository Writing will be considered CTE Completers.
 
Graphic Design
Do you like creating designs for posters, T-shirts, or banners? Learn graphic design and be on the cutting edge of technology. Students enrolled in graphics will learn computer software to apply visual elements of color, typography, and composition and complete a variety of projects such as logo designs, business cards/letterheads, shirt printing, and banners.
 
Career Examples: Graphic artist, interior designer, industrial design product/display designer, fashion design, advertising, sign/advertisement designer.
 
Student Expectations: Students will work on job orders such as banners and complete them in a timely manner. Students are also expected to compete in all local and state competitions.

These are advanced courses to expand skills and knowledge in graphic communications. Students will experience real world situations by creating a small business to do in-house designing and printing of projects.
 
TAU2110 GRAPHIC COMMUNICATIONS I
Grade 10-12
1 credit each year
This course provides classroom experiences in the graphics industry. Students will study the fundamentals of graphic design, typography, layout and copy preparation, silk screening, computer aided designing, printing, and desktop publishing.
 
Media Arts and Technologies
Students enrolled in the media strand will be exposed to different types of media production hardware and software to complete hands on projects. Animation, video production, and motion graphic projects for the student, school, and community will be the focus of the courses.
 
Career Examples: Animator, camera operator, digital media designer, filmmaker, movie director/producer, news reporter, production manager, sound engineer, studio technician, video editor, videographer.
 
Student Expectations: Students are to compete in district, state, and national competitions. Student projects may also be shown throughout the school via our closed circuit system or throughout the state. Students may also require time outside of class to complete projects.

This course is designed to give students a broad overview of media production. Students will have an opportunity to work with video equipment including videotaping in studio and on location.

A course for students interested in video productions. The course offers instruction in operation of video cameras, editing equipment, program development, and experience in a fully operational television studio.

TAK2990 ARTS AND COMMUNICATION CAREER PATHWAY CAPSTONE

A Capstone Project reflects the culmination of knowledge, skills, and attitude by senior students in the Arts and Communications Technology Career Pathway. This senior project provides a venue for seniors to plan and execute individualized study on a topic of particular interest to them. Participants will have their independent study and research periodically assessed by the instructor. Students are to enlist the guidance of an adult mentor from the school or community. The following products are required from the senior participating in a Capstone Project: 1) a research paper to demonstrate information and knowledge acquisition skills, 2) a formal oral report before a panel of industry experts, and 3) a portfolio that relates the “learning journey” and verifies the learning process. The topics of interest will be student-driven and the choice of media for presentation will be at the discretion of the student presenter.
